My Role

Defined product concept, marketplace strategy, and town-based information architecture. Directed AI-assisted development and prioritized the roadmap around local search, business onboarding, and SEO.

Challenges

  • Cold-start content across many towns
  • Category taxonomy fit for a mixed local economy
  • Balancing free discovery with monetization
  • Keeping listings fresh

Solutions

  • Seeded town pages with structured base content
  • Standardized business categories and tags
  • Introduced a claim-and-edit workflow
  • Built local SEO pages with clear canonical structure

Outcomes

  • Live regional platform with town-based coverage
  • Reusable local content architecture
  • Foundation for monetized listings and events

Lessons Learned

  • Local products live or die on town-level trust.
  • Taxonomy is a product decision, not a data one.
  • Free discovery has to work before paid tiers make sense.
What's Next

What's Next โ€” The Nest Platform

Capital District Nest has become the blueprint for a scalable regional publishing platform. The next step is Nest Platform โ€” a multi-region product where Capital District is the first deployment, South Florida is the second, and every future market (Hudson Valley, Buffalo, Rochester, Tampa Bay, Orlando, Jacksonville) runs on the same reusable framework. Regions become a first-class object; the architecture, search, directory, and admin surface stay identical while imagery, geography, and content are region-driven.
